| Numerous cultural highlights await Baden-Baden’s guests in the upcoming spring and summer months. At the “Festspielhaus”, Europe’s second largest opera & concert hall, the stars of the classic scene Season starts with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra on 1 and 2 April 2006, performing works of Mozart, Schumann, and Beethoven. On 14 May 2006, Mezzo Soprano Cecilia Bartoli interpretes works of the baroque. Anne-Sophie Mutter plays Mozart’s violin concerts on 25 and 27 May 2006, accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra. As every year, summer season culminates in the Herbert-von-Karajan Whitsun Festival, dating from 2nd to 7th June, when among others, Hélène Grimaud and Martha Argerich can be seen in piano concerts, and Kent Nagano and the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin performs Wagner’s “Lohengrin” and a “Beethoven Night”. Music lovers are usually prone to the arts, too: the new Museum Frieder Burda, opened in autumn 2004 (in a specular building of New York architect Richard Meier) shows art works of the 19 and 20 century. Great works of the German Expressionism will be presented still until 30 June 2006, among others by Kirchner, Beckmann, von Jawlensky, Macke, Münter and Pechstein. |
