It is now official, Sarvar, situated in the western part of Hungary, is allowed to be named “Royal Spa”. After an audit and an inspection of the facilities Rainer Mertel , chairman of the registered association “Royal Spas of Europe” welcomed the idyllic seated Sarvar, which is now equipped with a new Spa and Wellness Centre, in the exquisite circle of these European spas. Ten of the most important European spas did associate to treat their guests like kings. These are spas, where once emperors, kings, high nobility and famous heads of states found relaxation of the highest standard. Now initiatives taken by the Royal Spas of Europe aim to promote the special quality of their baths and thermal centres and to complement them by attractive packages against a cultural and historical background to high standard offers of wellness.
Sarvar is one of them now and one of the most beautiful towns, situated in the western part of Hungary, placed on the main road 84, which goes from the Austrian boarder to lake Balaton. This small town is very rich in cultural, and historical sights, surrounded by waters, forests and hills.
One of Sarvar’s characteristic features is the Nadasdy-castle, dating back to the Middle Ages. Its white spire, arching bridge and perpendicular internal court are all unique features of the Renaissance castle flanked by trees planted in the moat. The improvement of the town started in the ages of the Nadasdy Family. The also nowadays wonderful castle had famous owners through the history e.g.: the Habsburg – Lotharings, Bavarian princes and here lived the last Bavarian king, Ludwig III. and his son Prince Franz with his family.
The arboretum near the castle, used to be the king-garden, has several rarities including over 350 species of trees and bushes. Since 1952 the 16 ha big garden is under environmental protection.
The rowing lake, the River Raba, the parks and green woods all provide ideal conditions for all age groups to rest, take trips and simply just spend a few memorable days in and around the town.
Sarvar provides several cultural, sporting and entertainment facilities for all its visitors. Those who opt for active recreation, can do cycling, fishing, hunting, riding and touring in the breath-takingly beautiful natural environment. The River Raba provides ideal conditions to make paddle boat and canoeing tours. Tourists also like to visit the town for its high-quality cultural programmes e.g. the International Folklore Festival organised every year, the International Brass Band Festival, the Simon-Judas nation-wide open-air market, and also the so-called Historic Days.
One of the most attractive parts of Sarvar is without doubt its healing water. It contains alkaline hydrogen carbonates, sodium and microelements and is especially suitable for the treatment of locomotive disorders, rehabilitative after-treatment (including sport injuries), neurological complaints and muscle relaxing baths.
The new Spa and Wellness Centre Sarvar, which conforms to international standards, was opened in December 2002. The new Spa has first class services with covered and partly covered pools, world-famous healing waters, wellness services, modern therapy, possibilities for children, fitness- and beauty services. In 2004 the Spa- and Wellnesscenter Sarvar won the first prize of Hungarian Wellness Association in the category "Best wellness center".
