“It’s quite unbelievable how the Nordic walking euphoria is growing from day to day. There are people out there walking no matter what the weather, whether darkness or rain - there’s just no stopping them.” The initiator of the Ahr Rhein Eifel Nordic Fitness Park, Paul Nett, is quite thrilled. With its about 400 km of marked routes, Bad Neuenahr, in the Ahr, Rhein, Eifel holiday region, has the largest Nordic walking park in Europe. In the meantime ten routes have been created along the banks of the Ahr, the Rhein and Lake Maria Laach and in the Eifel. The networks of routes offer a variety of difficulty categories. Similarly to with skiing the routes are marked by colours: blue (easy), red (medium) and black (difficult). The routes vary according to length and terrain. Detailed signboards at the various starting points provide information on the route and a brief introduction to Nordic walking. Romantic vineyards, endless grasslands and meadows along the banks of the Ahr and in the Eifel, as well as the national park around Lake Maria Laach and the neighbouring Brohl Valley volcanic park, all provide something for all tastes and needs. The basic route around Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler consists of a route network of 61.7 km. The network of routes around Hocheifel-Nürburgring, between the world famous Grand Prix race track and the picturesque Eifel town of Adenau consists of 22.1 km. The Mittelahr network of routes offers picture book views and a wide variety of routes, consisting of 57.4 km, some of which go straight through the picturesque vineyards of this red wine paradise. The prevention route in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler with 35.5 km of routes is closely linked to various health and wellness offers. One thing that all the routes have in common is the emphasis on prevention in the region. Doctors, physiotherapists and sports trainers and instructors, all provide a prevention offer, that goes far beyond sports. The courses and meetings that are on offer are aimed at the widest variety of target groups. The leisure experts in the health region of northern Rhineland-Palatinate have put together a wide range of courses and packages for holidaymakers and weekend holidaymakers. A Nordic walking weekend in the Ahr, Rhein, Eifel region and Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler with two nights of hotel accommodation is available from € 128.- upwards. Besides the two nights of hotel accommodation, the offer includes a Nordic walking course, entry to the Ahr thermal springs, as well as a fitness menu.
