wellness & cures
From the interior of the earth, running through volcanic layers, hot mineral curative water comes to the earth's surface, providing people with health and ease. This is the case, for instance, at the "Ahr-Thermen" of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, at the "Römer-Thermen" of the spa town of Bad Breisig and at the outdoor thermal bath at Sinzig-Bad Bodendorf. The natural composition of this unique and world-famous thermal spring water has obvious curative and animating effects on the human organism. The muscular system and the connective tissue are relaxed and the blood circulation is animated. Thus the motto of the three thermal baths is: "relax and recreate". At the thermal spring "Ahr-Therme" you may even bath at night - daily until 11 pm. There you will also have a wide choice of different saunas in which your circulation is "steamed up". And finally the reconstructed open air "Vita Parcours" will contribute to your wellness as well. Do you want to complete your wellness holiday with an appealing sensual experience for your body, mind and soul? Then allow yourself a visit at the "Symphony of the Senses". This refreshing experience is waiting for you at the beautiful thermal bath in Bad Neuenahr, especially designed for the "Symphony of the Senses", which combines the powers of water, officinal herbs, volcanoes and wine vinegar in a unique, partly even in a completely new form. The newly built "Garden of Senses" provides genuine recreation after one of our spa treatments. Holistic natural cures in the tradition of Kneipp and last but not least our beauty farm "La Fontaine" with its "Thalasso-Therapy" complete our service.

cures in our spas

At Bad Bodendorf metabolical and intestinal disorders as well as cardial and vascular diseases are treated. At Bad Breisig rheumatism and metabolical disorders are treated and convalescence after accidents as well as surgical operations of limbs are offered. Discover and explore the scenic splendour and diversity of the "Ahr, Rhine and Eifel"-region! On 35 beautiful kilometres the "Rotweinwanderweg" (Red Wine Trail) leads you from Bad Bodendorf to Altenahr. Considered to be one of the most beautiful trails in Germany, it is winding its way through vineyards and idyllic wine villages above the Ahr valley. On the "Weinbaulehrpfad", an excellent educational path leading from Ahrweiler to Walporzheim, you will learn everything you always wanted to know about grapes.

If you prefer a fairly romantic view on the River Rhine instead, you ought to take the "Rheinhöhenweg". And for those who are interested in following the old chevaliers' trail, discovering old mills or even exploring the "Green Hell", the region offers numerous interesting trails dedicated to these particular topics. But you want to do more than just walking? No problem: with its more than 1000 kilometres of cycling trails the region is a true El Dorado for cyclists! It is up to you whether you go on a relaxing ride on one of the romantic trails along the banks of the Rhine or the Ahr or whether you strengthen your muscles by cycling the hills of the Eifel. The "Green Hell" is a particular challenge for mountain bikers: this demanding route winds its way on approximately 30 kilometres around the legendary "Nürburgring". There's even more for you to do: for instance, you can learn how to climb and eventually rope down from up to 30 metres in Ahrweiler's new climbing park. And if you prefer winter sport, you will also have ample opportunities to enjoy yourself in the Upper Eifel!

leisure and adventure
The "Ahr, Rhine and Eifel"-region provides an exceptional range of leisure activities. Take for instance the Nürburgring. Interested in a Formula One Grand Prix or another racing event? Or do you want to smell the hot asphalt itself? Then take our "Ring taxi" with its 340 horsepower engine and drive over the legendary Eifel racecourse. If you prefer a slower and calmer means of transport, then you are welcome aboard the "Volcano Express", which will take you on historic steam and diesel engines from Brohl upon the Rhine to Engeln in the Upper Eifel. Geological adventures are waiting to be discovered at the "Volcano Park", situated in an area which is regarded among geologists as one of the most interesting areas of the world. A rendezvous with Fortuna, the goddess of fortune, awaits you at Bad Neuenahr's atmospheric casino, which is located in the old belle époque spa edifice. On a 90-minutes hot-air balloon trip over the Eifel you will have a magnificent view of picturesque slate roofs, circular maars and deep valleys. This is not spectacular enough for you? Then explore the region skydiving or try Altenahr's summer luge run.

gourmet and wine
Welcome to the "Gourmet's Paradise". The Ahr wines have earned the region the title "red wine haven". And the gastronomy of the region is awarded with numerous Michelin and Gault Millau stars. But even the rustic "Straußwirtschaften" provide great delicacies from their kitchens and wine cellars. With approximately 520 ha the Ahr is one of Germany's smallest vinicultural regions. On the other hand it is the largest single area in Germany in which red wine is cultivated. Approximately 1500 hours of sunlight and an almost Mediterranean climate account for the region's exceptional red wines. 80% of the area is covered with red vine in autumn, half of which is "Spätburgunder", followed by "Portugieser" vine. Among the white vine the "Riesling" is prevailing. In return for their arduous work, the vinedressers of the region have received various prizes - the "Vinedresser of the Year" for instance. The region's excellent gastronomy combines the local wines and dishes perfectly. A particular highlight, which has become a genuine institution in the course of time, is "Gourmet & Wine", a series of events, during which the ambitious chefs and vinedressers of the region arrange fantastic creations to a cultural accompaniment. By the way, the brochure "Gourmet & Wine" serves as an ideal culinary guide for the region, telling you, for instance, where to find this year's "Cook of the Year".

hotels and gastronomy
Looking for a top class hotel with a swimming pool and a sauna? Or a cosy guest-house with a nice view? Or maybe for an atmospheric "Winzerhof" (an establishment run by a vinedresser providing lodging and food)? No matter what kind of accommodation you are looking for: in the "Ahr, Rhine and Eifel"-region hospitality has a long tradition and wherever you go you will find an extraordinary variety of excellent restaurants and hotels. In order to make it easier for you to choose a particular accommodation, in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and the surrounding area many hotels, guest-houses, private residences and holiday apartments are listed according to international standards. It will hardly surprise you that you will be able to discover and experience culinary highlights in this "Gourmet's Paradise". As a matter of fact the regional gastronomers, chefs and vinedressers are excellent! Some are even decorated with highly valued awards and famous beyond the region. The "Cook of the Year 2000" , for instance, comes from Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and also the highly valued "German Red Wine Prize", Germany's highest wine prize, was awarded to the region several times. You are invited to choose from an exceptional range of excellent restaurants and hotels, including many four-stars establishments, suitable also for large conferences and events.

conferences and congresses

Then come to Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and its surroundings, for it provides perfect conditions for an entirely successful meeting. No matter whether you are to hold an important congress, a jubilee or a meeting in a small circle the hoteliers of the region are very experienced in this business and they will personally take care that your needs and wishes will be fulfilled.

The whole region, situated between Cologne and Frankfurt at the Rhine Route, in the vicinity of the metropolitan areas of Bonn, Cologne and Düsseldorf, is particularly suitable for conferences due to its central location and easy accessibility on the A 61. If you prefer travelling by train, it is recommendable to go via Bonn. On request we are offering optionally a shuttle service from and to Cologne-Bonn airport. Which event may we organize for you?

art and culture
Even the museums have left behind impressive marks in our holiday region. An extraordinary art project is awaiting you in Remagen where a sculptured riverside is to be realized in time for the opening of the Arp-Museum. You can take a sneak preview of just some of the impressive exhibits waiting for you now. A further sculpture path with ten monumental works of art is to be realized in Bad Neuenahr.

The Ahr valley is the home of the event series Ahrmuse and ARE Kultur life which have temperamental and varied programs to offer. The museum night "Moon culture" which lights up the old town centre of Ahrweiler is just one of the highlights. Are you in need of some virtuoso laughter? Then well known cabaret artists of the established cabaret Remagen will guarantee non-stop humour all evening. Art and culture are also the centre of attention at numerous wine festivals for example Kunst & Wein (Art & Wine) in Bachem.

Why not travel back in time and take a trip round the mighty Burg Olbrück including the tower from which you have a unique view. Discover the Benedictine abbey Maria Laach and its superb architecture near the Laach Lake. Travel even further into the past by visiting the Roemervilla Museum and experience Roman culture vividly. The Ahr wine forum can tell you all you need to know about the very turbulent past of the local wine.

If you wish to reflect a while, visit the picturesque Adenauer Buttermarkt with its small galleries and popular cultural café. It is not surprising that all the local artists have come to live here.

Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler
Go on a holiday for your body, mind and all of your senses. Why not where fitness and health have traditionally enjoyed a great importance? The curative power of Bad Neuenahr's thermal springs has endowed people with health and zest for life as far back as 1858 when the Princess of Prussia inaugurated the Augusta and Victoria Springs. You can complete your wellness-holiday in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler with the well-being-program "Symphony of Senses". And the charming atmosphere created by the white splendour of the buildings dating back to the time of the foundation of the spa towns, the elegant halls of the casinos are located in the "Kurhaus", also contributes to relaxation and well-being.

The town of Ahrweiler, famous for its red wine, exerts a particular charm. Numerous buildings are preserved here in their original state, wielding a particular medieval flair. The town is surrounded by fully preserved strong walls. Today its half-timbered buildings house butchers and bakers, boutiques and wine taverns. History is alive here and present everywhere - a history which began with the ancient Romans, who left in Ahrweiler visibly more traces than in most other places. Take for instance one of the best preserved Roman manors north of the Alps, which was uncovered under the aegis of the Ahrweiler "Roemervilla"-museum. Town history, which can be experienced and witnessed for example in the beautiful museum in the "White Tower" and in the "AhrWeinForum". The latter provides information on the origins of wine growing and the vinedressers' every-day life. Where can you find the Forum? At the historic site of Ahrweiler's wine cooperative - the "Winzerverein".

The Ahr Valley
Those who think of the "Ahr" don't have necessarily just the wine in mind. For the particular attraction of this area lies in its variety and the Ahr Valley is one of the most picturesque valleys of the Rhine - owing to, first of all, the natural Ahr delta, then to the fertile pastureland of the lower Ahr, to the rugged rocky outcrops of the middle Ahr with its century-old steep vineyards and its high rising wooded hillsides and last but not least to the mountainous region of the Upper Ahr.

Of particular importance are also the Ahr Valley's mineral and thermal springs. The Apollinaris spring and the spa town of Bad Neuenahr, for instance, are both renown all over the world. The flair of the spa town with its elegant casino forms an attractive contrast with the medieval atmosphere of Ahrweiler.

The Ahr region is looking back on a long tradition of wine growing. Even the ancient Romans valued the steep sunny slopes, which characterize the middle Ahr region. In 1868 the world's first wine cooperative was established in Mayschoß. Above all it is the "Spätburgunder" (Pinot Noir) and the Portugieser, but also the "Frühburgunder", as well as the white wines "Riesling" and "Mueller-Thurgau" which are cultivated in this area. The gastronomy, whether regional home style or gourmet standard, harmonizes always superbly with the excellent wines of the Ahr region. Always well worth a visit are the wine festivals of Ahrweiler, Altenahr, Bachem, Dernau, Heimersheim, Mayschoß, Rech and Walporzheim.

There are remarkable hiking trails on which the valley can be explored. First of all there is the "Ahrufer Weg", following the banks of the River Ahr; then there is the "Rotweinwanderweg", which runs from Bad Bodendorf to Altenahr on a distance of 35 kilometres through the vineyards. Apart from the lovely trail the hiker is rewarded by an almost Mediterranean climate caused by the permanent flow of mild air from the Rhine Valley. "See, experience, and enjoy", this is the motto of Altenahr, which is surrounded by huge hills. The ruins of Are Castle, a Romanesque parish church, and picturesque half-timbered houses covered with silky lustrous slate roofs
are awaiting you there. The Upper Ahr region is characterized above all by an idyllic landscape and peaceful villages. It is hardly surprising that campers in particular will find their "El Dorado" here.

The upper Eifel
The mountainous area of the Eifel with its endless forests and lush pastureland seems to be designed for relaxation and contemplation. Together with the neighbouring Ardennes it forms Europe's "green lung". The Eifel was formed 400 million years ago and it is thus one of the most ancient mountain ranges of the world. Of the once enormous mountain tops, rising in that time up to 6000 metres, only a subalpine landscape with the "Hohe Acht" (747 m) as its highest elevation is left.

In the Eifel each season has its particular charm: the fresh green woods and meadows in spring, the juniper trees and the yellow shining broom, known as the "Eifel Gold", in summer, the colourful leaves of the autumn woods and last but not least the white splendour of winter. Discover the country and its history. Interesting and well signed hiking trails arranged around certain topics lead you through the old chevaliers' track, to old mills and through the "Green Hell". Whichever trail you take, you will come across peaceful towns and calm villages, great hospitality, clean air and refreshing tranquillity. And you will always be tempted to take a rest, whether in a rural inn or in a top restaurant. There you can taste, for instance, the typical Eifel specialities trout and ham. The ham of the region was a highly valued delicacy even in distant Rome 2000 years ago. In the very heart of the region lies the 1000-year-old town of Adenau, with its picturesque half-timbered houses and its historical "butter market" district. Not far from there the "Nürburgring" winds its way around the peaks of the "Nürburg" and the "Hohe Acht", drawing motoring enthusiasts to fascinating racing events, while mountain bikers are enjoying themselves in the "Green Hell".

The Brohl Valley
Explore a "hot period" of earth history that nowhere else can be experienced in the same absorbing way as in the Brohl Valley. For the traces of the unbound elemental forces from the interior of the earth are virtually present everywhere. Volcanoes shaped the unique and beautiful landscape along the Brohlbach. The last volcanic eruption, which took place 11000 years ago, formed the surrounding landscape in particular. The countless volcano cones form an attractive contrast with the wooded mountain ranges and the pastureland in the valley. And everything is guarded by Brohltal's most famous landmark, the Olbrück Castle, with its magnificent observation platform.

The volcano park "Brohltal/Laacher See", Germany's largest geological project, waits to be explored on five varied geological trails, everyone of which is designed to be done in a single day. The picturesque tuff quarries in the vicinity of Weibern, numerous basalt cones and rock formations and last but not least the horseshoe shaped crater of the "Bausenberg" provide a fascinating insight into earth history. In the Vinxtbachtal you will come across an abundance of interesting historical buildings and unique ceramic sculptures. A particular highlight is the famous Benedictine abbey of Maria Laach at Lake Laacher, with its church, which is a celebrated example of Romanesque architecture in Europe. Another place of interest, especially for families, with children is the Natural History Museum of Maria Laach, which is open all year round. An inside information: consider linking your hiking tour in the volcano park with a ride on the historic "Volcano Express", a narrow gauge railway running between Brohl upon the Rhine and Engeln in the Upper Eifel, providing you with an unforgettable scenic experience. On selected days steam engine trips are offered. And your bicycle is even transported free of charge. Next stop, ladies and gentlemen, Volcano Park.

The Rhine Valley
In the mood for a romantic nature experience? Then come and discover "Father Rhine" between Brohl and Remagen-Rolandswerth. For it is here that the river shows its loveliest side. Embedded between the mountains of the Eifel and the Westerwald, the River Rhine still appears as the great and, at times, wild German river. Two paths accompany the Rhine for quite a distance - the "Rheinhöhenweg" and the "Rheinuferweg". The latter is particularly suitable for cyclists as it provides vast opportunities to relax body and soul. This enchanting trail leads along the picturesque promenades at Bad Breisig and Remagen, crossing the "Ahr Radwanderweg" at Sinzig. In the spa town of Bad Breisig you will come across an almost Mediterranean atmosphere and even palm trees. The "Roemer Thermal Spring" and its curative mineral water are an experience and comfort in itself. The fascinating setting of Bad Breisig's Rhine promenade, which extends in total to more than 6 kilometres, provides a magnificent view of the romantic Rhine castles.

From the steep mountain ridges in the south of the town downstream to the natural Ahr delta runs the "Golden Mile". There you will get an impression of the picturesque Barbarossa-town Sinzig with its famous hospitality. An inside information: the spa district of Bad Bodendorf offers an open-air thermal bath. On your romantic trip you will then catch a sight of the pilgrimage church of St Apollinaris, which was built on steep hills above the Rhine. This church is the major landmark of Remagen, the former Roman stronghold founded in 16 A.D., known in that time as "Rigomagus". Particularly remarkable in this town are - apart from the two towers, which are the only remains of the Remagen Bridge, housing today the "Museum of Peace" - the "Roman Museum", the yacht harbour at Oberwinter, the legendary "Roland's Arch" and last but not least the isle of Nonnenwerth. Typical "ingredients" of Rhenish culture are of course the numerous merry festivals, like for instance the "Zwibbels-Market" and the culinary week at Bad Breisig or Remagen's "Promenade Festival" and "Apollinaris Pilgrimage Weeks" and finally Sinzig's "Ahrbank Festival" and fair.
