The old adage is valid today: noble contemporaries have a nose for the best. And in this respect Bad Neuenahr has lost none of its attraction in almost 150 years. The later Empress and Queen of Prussia inaugurated the Augusta springs, which were named after her, in 1858. After that, the grand guests repeatedly stayed in the elegant spa in the romantic Ahr Valley where they spent their annual health holidays in elegant society. And due to this royal connection, Bad Neuenahr is a member of the select club of “Royal Spas”, and has made the indeed royal indulgence of its guest one of its tasks. Modern nobility is attracted continuously to Bad Neuenahr and enjoys having a few days of “spa holiday”. In doing so, it can enjoy the wonderful landscape, the good wine and the offers extended by the “Symphony of Senses”. At a “Royal Spas Fitness Weekend” to which the Director of the Bad Neuenahr Spa, Rainer Mertel, the President of the “Royal Spas”, had invited, an illustrious group got together. Princesses, counts and countesses alongside barons and baronesses informed themselves from the well-known doctor, Dr. Gerhard Kreuter, over a light evening fitness menu in the Steigenberger Hotel about the healthy advantages of the moderate enjoyment of red wine. The next morning, the guests were then shown the newest attraction of the region: the biggest Nordic fitness park in Germany with a route network of over 250 km. The initiator, Paul Nett, explained what is pertinent about the trendy new sport and the guests appeared to be enthusiastic about the fact that, after this brief and skilled introduction, they could set off immediately. Princess Heide von Hohenzollern put it in a nutshell: “At last a type of sport which can be indulged in without any great preparation around the clock”. And when there are such well sign-posted and scenically charming Nordic Walking courses as in the region around Bad Neuenahr, even the urbane Countess Jeannette von Beissel is forced into enthusiastic praise: “The walkways here are simply fantastic!” The guests also made use of the offer to relax after the sport in the Ahr-Thermen thermal spa and enjoyed in doing so the thermal springs baths landscape which is decorated by numerous works of contemporary artists. What is fun for nobility, also pleases people like you and me. The Ahr-Thermen thermal spa offer everyone an appropriate package: equipped with borrowed sticks and pulsimeter, off you go on a Nordic walking tour, there is a lunch package for the break on the way and after walking, two hours in the Ahr-Thermen thermal spa. A trainer accompanies the tours which are offered as “Nordic Walking Meet” every Monday at 3 p.m. and every Thursday at 10 a.m.. Start and finish are at the Ahr-Thermen thermal spa at which you can also register for these tours. Address: Felix-Rütten-Straße 3, 53474 Bad Neuenahr, telephone: 02641 / 801-200. |
